There’s a festival happening every summer in Stockport that always feels different from the rest.
Moovin Festival takes over Whitebottom Farm in Etherow Country Park, blending drum and bass, reggae, house, soul, and funk across five cosy stages for three days.
The 2026 edition runs from 12th to 14th June, marking the event’s 11th year of staying intentionally small while still pulling in some pretty big names.
SK6 5JD might not be regular raving territory, but this patch of Stockport has become a must-visit destination each summer due to its unique location and lineup.
If you haven’t been before, Moovin sits at the bottom of a tree-lined valley, wrapped by lakes and countryside that feels a world away from Manchester‘s city centre, even though it’s just a quick cab away.
Previous headliners? Orbital, Basement Jaxx, De La Soul, Leftfield. Acts you’d expect at massive events, but here they play to a much more intimate crowd, with Lee Scratch Perry once calling it his “favourite festival worldwide.”
What Makes Moovin Festival Unique
It started as a cow barn party with just a few hundred people. Now it’s a sell-out event that still purposely keeps capacity at enjoyable levels.
The organisers book everyone from legends like Groove Armada and 808 State to local talent and crate-digging DJs, playing host to bass, funk, soul, reggae, house, and drum and bass across 3 highly curated days.
Mornings bring gong baths and yoga classes. Evenings mean fire shows and walkabout performers. No VIP ropes or corporate polish, just a killer sound system in a hay barn. What’s not to like!
How Moovin Got Started
Herbie Saccani kicked things off in 2014. He was a Hacienda DJ, deeply rooted in Manchester’s dance music scene.
Then Paul Fletcher joined early on and brought serious credentials. He was finishing up at Sankeys nightclub, one of Manchester’s legendary venues, and later got involved with the Hacienda brand, still running events all over the globe.
Fletcher works with partner Rebecca Rosenberg and a dedicated team, and their deep background in club culture shapes everything about Moovin.
The beautiful thing about Moovin is that they don’t book acts because some algorithm says so. They pick artists they genuinely love, and the line-up release date is always a must-see occasion.
How These Guys Are Bringing SomethingElse to the World
Moovin Festival doesn’t try to compete with mega-events. Instead, it leans into what those can’t offer: real intimacy in a working cow barn, affordable pints, and a crowd that actually talks to each other.
Most boutique festivals happen in fields or warehouses. A big chunk of Moovin unfolds inside an actual barn at Whitebottom Farm that houses cattle for most of the year. The straw bale seating? Not a design choice, just part of the farm’s daily life.
This means you can stand just metres from acts like Ezra Collective or Roni Size without wading through a sea of people. The sound system fills the barn but never overwhelms it.
The pricing breaks the festival mould. £5 pints and £40 day tickets aren’t just for show, they’re policy.
The £1 cup deposit system and zero landfill waste policy stay in place, even though it costs more and sometimes leads to people trekking across fields with stacks of cups for refunds. All food outlets source ethically, and everything’s recyclable.
This festival runs as what Fletcher calls “a labour of love.” The cow barn stays right at the heart of it all, unchanged even as the event grows.

Moovin’s excellent reputation mostly comes from word-of-mouth. Artists and regulars keep coming back, and people always enjoy the unique, intimate atmosphere on-site and a lineup that punches above its weight.
The Manchester Evening News calls it “a hidden gem of a festival nestled amongst serene lakes and a gorge in a beautiful countryside setting.” The Manc says it’s gone from “Manchester’s best kept secret” to a must-attend event.
Artists feel the same. Lee Scratch Perry called it his “highlight of the summer” with DJ Paulette praising the “beautiful crowd” and “electric energy.” Big Daddy Kane and 808 State have shouted about how great the crowd is.
The 2026 lineup features Groove Armada, 2manydjs, Fish56Octagon, Mungo’s Hi-Fi, The Mouse Outfit, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Greg Wilson, Dan Shake, Freestylers, Jaguar Skills, Utah Saints, Plump DJs, and A.Skillz, among others.
If you’re looking for a festival with real community spirit, then we highly recommend getting your tickets soon before they sell out!

Why Festivals Like Moovin Matter Right Now
With more and more corporate events dominating the calendar, this independently run festival proves that intimate gatherings can still thrive. After surviving the pandemic and a change of dates, the organisers deserve a double high-five for sticking it out and continuing to keep things real at all times.
Moovin hasn’t sold out to bigger venues or corporate sponsors, and that says a lot these days.
Timing here feels special. Groove Armada and 2manydjs share the bill as co-headliners in 2026. Both have headlined before, but this time they’re back together, and you just know they’ll bring their A-game to Moovin.
So turn up, tune out and support independent businesses like Moovin who are bringing SomethingElse to the world.
